‘The Pale Horizon’
Oil on Canvas 40 cm x 40 cm
‘The Pale Horizon’ is the name of the boat the foxes are setting out in. In poetic Japanese it is ‘Awaki Chihei’. Although the islands are fictitious, the islands to the far south of Japan are tropical, remote and exciting to visit. Long ago I flew to Okinawa and from there took a ferry to Kume-jima where I spent a glorious week doing very little more than snorkellling in the coral reefs and breakfasting, dining and enjoying dinner on sashimi.
