Call Of The Thunder Boats

Oil on Canvas 100 cm x 40 cm

In Japanese tradition, the deep, thundering resonance of taiko drums was often used as a direct line to the kami (gods) to request rain, bountiful harvests, or protection.

Here, two animals, which figure in the zodiac are drumming on old boats in a zesty sea - perhaps through the Inland Inland Sea. Tigers - Tora and Wild Boar - Inoshishi.
